I prefer to take pictures of the familiars when they are first captured/obtained. That way you get a nice clean image of the stats. Another good way is to use the Band feature. In this case you should use an empty slot (remove the familiar first if the slot is not empty) or just add/swap the familiar to the slot and then click on it again. This way you avoid those extra +/- blue/red stat numbers that show the difference between stats.

Just to give you an example (taken from the recently added pictures page):

The picture on the left contains extra stat information that is useless because it is relative to the familiar it is supposed to replace. The image on the right is a lot cleaner and contains only the information we are interested in.

Another good tip is to rename the images taken, to give them more meaningful names (the picture on the right) as opposed to the names generated by the application used to take the pictures, which can be quite random (it usually contains some form of date/time information). Yes, it takes a little more time but it provides a lot of useful information when editing the wiki.
